In my opinion the Formula Student program is one of the best platforms to achieve a boost in every student’s career. Form technical knowledge to teamwork, the amount of sacrifice and time settles a challenge for everyone. One might ask: Why should I work hard more hours after school or on weekends instead of doing anything else? Well, there is no straight answer to that. For me it is the fact that anything that is going to run and compete is designed and built by us. The pride it gives us as engineers to see our product work is, undoubtedly one of the best feelings I’ve had (specially during competition). The sweat and hard work is worth it. And even more if it is shared with your teammates and friends.
Professionally it has helped me a lot. Seeing the bigger picture. Planning ahead before rushing into the design process of a task. Working with similar tools, materials and even resolving issues in a common way than in the workshop is something that happens to me every day. Im glad that I joined the team, even if in the first years I didn’t take a big part in building the car. Last year I ended up putting much more effort and seeing the results of my work was incredibly satisfying.
For the ones that are not in the team, I encourage you to try and join next semester. You will be amazed at how much you can learn if you put the time to it. And for the ones in the team that feel disconnected at times or a bit lost, don’t feel afraid to go to your manager or colleagues and ask for support or new tasks. There is a lot of work to do and we can always use some help.
Next couple of months are going to be crazy filled with all kind of tasks and challenges. We are closer and closer to competition and there is a ton of stuff left to do. For those outside interested in the development of the team, we will try to keep you posted. Everyone else, get ready! This one is not going to be easy.
See you downstairs,
